UConn Goes For Win Number 89 In A Row

Tonight at a sold out XL Center in Hartford and in front of a national television audience, the number 20 ranked Florida State Seminoles will attempt to avoid becoming the answer to a trivia question.

What was the name of the school the UConn Huskies beat to pass the UCLA win streak of 88 wins in a row?

We already know who the Huskies beat to tie the mark that the UCLA's men's team compiled from 1971-1974 under the legendary coach John Wooden.  On Sunday they took down Ohio State 81-50 in front of 15,232 people, the second largest crowd to watch a women's basketball game at Madison Square Garden.

The UConn women long ago passed the NCAA women's mark their 2001-2003 team set at 70 wins in a row and some people have December 30 circled on the calendar and a game with Stanford as the day this current mega win streak comes to a halt.  .

But one of the things that has bothered me is the hatin' coming from some male sportswriters who are trying to diss the UConn accomplishment.   I was also not happy that ESPN relegated the history making game on Sunday to ESPNU, and chose to run a pool tournament and poker tournament instead.

Poker is not a sport and I don't know why it's even being televised on ESPN period.

But back to the post..
.
But then again.it goes back to what I've said about women's sports some time ago.  It is up to women to show the women who bust their behinds playing any sport at any level some love, because they damned sure won't get it from many chauvinistic male sports fans and male sportswriters.

In case you do love women's sports and wish to watch sporting history be made tonight, the game will be televised on ESPN2 starting at 7 PM EST
